Collection: Shamji Vankar Vishram Valji

Rooted in the weaving traditions of Bhujodi in Kutch, Gujarat, Shamji Vankar is part of a long lineage of master weavers from the Vankar community, whose handloom practices have been passed down through generations. The son of National Award-winning weaver Vishram Valji Vankar, Shamji began learning at the loom as a teenager and has since become known for his quietly innovative approach to natural dyeing and contemporary Kutch weaving. Working closely with artisan families in his village, his practice brings together traditional pit loom weaving, hand-spun fibres and natural dyes drawn from indigo, madder, iron and pomegranate.

You can read more about Shamji Siju on the Selvedge blog.

We've been lucky enough to purchase a few of his one-off natural dye pieces and are happy to bring his textiles as artforms to Vanata.
