This is a rare Phulkari shawl, dating to the early 20th century and originates from the Punjab region. In an unusual purple hue—distinct from the traditional reds and oranges—this piece is emblematic of rarity and refinement, with very little wear despite its age.

Phulkari, meaning "flower work," is a form of counted-thread embroidery that has long adorned the wardrobes and dowries of Punjabi women. The silk floss stitching is arranged into floral motifs and geometric frameworks; they are more than just decorative as they represent prosperity, fertility, and the daily rural life, making this shawl not just beautiful, but symbolic.

Very little wear but some minor imperfections consistent with age - c 100 years old.

Large piece - would be a beautiful interior decorators piece.

Width 150cm
Length 200cm
