Nakshi can be derived from the Bengali word naksha, which means 'design' or 'pattern' and refers to the artistic patterns. Nakshi kantha quilts have been created for centuries using traditional folk embroidery motifs such as lotus flowers, deities and rituals. Each are a reflection of the makers unique experience and skill.

This is a rare large piece, and is characterised by the central floral motifs which binds the geometric design together. Arranged in a grid format with intricate stitching, this quilt was clearly well-loved and created by a talented maker.

While no exact provenance is available, this would have been created in Bangladesh in the early 20th Century, and as such, has some marking and repairs that reflect its age.

A truly one-off showstopper piece.

Made from recycled cotton and can be washed on a delicate cycle or by hand.
