A beautiful and time-worn fragment of a mid-century Gujarati toran, retaining its richly embroidered central panel and original borders, but with the characteristic hanging flaps now lost.
The embroidery shows geometric forms worked with coloured thread and tiny inset mirrors, with layers of patterned borders creating a striking composition. Much of the original embroidery and mirrorwork has been lost over time, leaving a wonderfully worn and tactile surface.
Rather than diminishing the piece, these traces of age speak to its history and use. A fascinating example of Gujarati domestic textile art, and an evocative fragment of a once more elaborate toran.
Would be beautiful as an interior design or study piece, please note due to age, this piece is heavily worn but still very beautiful.
