This black and white ikat cotton scarf is handwoven in Odisha, where the complex resist-dye technique known locally as bandha has been practised for generations. Each thread is individually tied and dyed before it ever reaches the loom, so the pattern is built into the cloth itself rather than printed on the surface. The soft feathering at the edges of the motifs is the quiet signature of true ikat.
